Elselijn Kingma is Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Southampton, UK, and Socrates Professor in philosophy and technology in the Humanist Tradition, at the University of Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

Elselijn's research focuses on philosophy of medicine (concepts of health and disease and the epistemology of Evidence Based Medicine); applied ethics ('trust' in medical interactions and rights, interests and obligations in pregnancy and birth); and the metaphysics of pregnancy, identity and personhood.

Prior to doing a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science at the University in Cambridge in 2008 Elselijn completed undergraduate degrees in Clinical Medicine and Cognitive & Neuro Psychology at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands.
